Call for residency: Berlin Art Institute

The BERLIN ART INSTITUTE makes use of the large number of national and international artists in Berlin and generates its temporary and regular partners from this pool to make a broad and flexible training offer. The regular events of the BAI with alternating artists, critics, curators etc. enable all participants an exchange with the actors of contemporary art in Berlin during their study stay. With its innovative concept of an international and contemporary “art school,” the BAI pursues the vision of advancing the relationship between art and training as a process of conscious-ness-raising in which the participants can discover and emancipate themselves. The BAI banks on a constructive and critical discourse on a par with all persons involved, whether beginners or professionals.

Studios are approx. 45 – 55 m² with a height of approx. 3.5 m. The bright spaces facing northeast are equipped with working tables and chairs, overhead lighting, and light protection for the windows. One studio can be used by 3 or 4 persons. Five minutes by foot from the BAI you can find a large DIY market with a comprehensive offer of material and tools.

The BERLIN ART INSTITUTE is located in the building complex 404 of the “Gewerbehöfe an der Industriebahn” in the Berlin district of Weißensee. In addition to numerous studios, the Gewerbehöfe accommodate several small business enterprises. The charm of the landmarked industrial grounds bolsters the pleasant work atmosphere on site. The popular Weiße See with a public beach, open air stage, and the Café Milchhäuschen is just a kilometer away. The Weißensee Kunsthochschule and the Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz are two kilometers from the BAI.
